THE OLD PIG

Our friends and neighbors who do great work with the Old Towne Charleston District Task Force shared this information with us regarding the Sumar Property (former Piggly Wiggly).  Faison (the owner/developer of that property) provided the following summary of the current status of Ashley Landing and the former Pig:
“1.     Faison is committed to Ashley Landing and the former Pig site for long term investment

2.     We’ve invested over $2m in facade, lighting, and landscaping upgrades at Ashley Landing without any return, and eliminated Citi Trends at a cost of over $250k/year to enhance the appearance and to begin changing the perception of the property

3.     Prior to agreeing to Sunoco we explored every alternative, and turned down many alternatives that we considered unacceptable; the size and triangular shape of the property present significant limitations to its use

4.     Sunoco was not our first choice, but they present a needed service for the community, offer many food amenities, and the enhanced architectural and landscaping they are offering are a significant improvement over the existing site and improvements.

5.     The new Sunoco development as proposed is a first step in upgrading our portion of the Sam Rittenburg corridor, which will be a long term and multi-step process.”

The plan, as proposed by Faison includes green space, landscaping, a brick building and a modern convenience store with fueling. Click here for the drawings for the proposed Sunoco.
We have been told that the plan is going up in front of the Redevelopment and
Preservation Commission

CATHOLIC DIOCESE BUILDING
We are aware that the Catholic Diocese of Charleston has received permission from the Vatican to sell their building on Ingram Rd. We have reached out to Councilman Peter Shahid and the diocese for additional information. This is something to keep a close eye on as what ends up being built there will significantly impact our neighborhood.
WEED AND WATER
Our front entrance needs some TLC. When you are on your walk or jog, please grab a handful of weeds. At our Spring meeting (TBA) we will collect dues and vote on hiring a landscaper to provide monthly or quarterly maintenance.
Thanks all!
