Congrats to the McAlisters of 1650 Culpepper Circle!

    Neighborhood News

    Garden Club:
Please consider a contribution to the efforts for the upkeep and maintenance of the front entrance.  We’ve got a wonderful plan in place and your neighborhood dues go towards making it possible.  If you’ve already contributed, thank you!

Communications: Your zone captains will be in touch in the coming weeks to verify your information and inclusion in the Neighborhood Directory.  We want to be sure that only the information you authorize to include appears exactly as you would like.  If you have any questions, please feel free to contact Communications Committee Member – Jennifer Buddin at jenbuddin@gmail.com.

Safety and Services: City Councilman Aubry Alexander addressed the recent shooting in our district at Georgetown Apartments in his newsletter, District Doings (see link below).  Please note the following:

What can we do to help our Apartment Community Neighbors?

We can call our State Senate and House Representatives to support passage of H. 3274. This Bill accelerates the eviction process for problem tenants in our apartment communities.

We highly recommend that you subscribe to Aubry’s informative newsletter to keep up to date with what is happening in our district and with the Old Towne Charleston District Task Force.

Board Meeting: The Executive Board meets on June 22.  Meeting minutes will be included in the July enewsletter.

    GARDEN COMMITTEE:
    ·  “YARD OF THE MONTH” – Starting May 1, a panel of judges will
be looking at the various  neighbors yards and will select one yard a
month that has done an  excellent job either maintaining or improving their yards. Criteria for  selection will be lawn, landscape,
flowerbeds, driveway/walkway and  overall aesthetics/design. All
plantings must be living and backyards  are not part of the
selection. Committee members are not eligible to be  selected and the
winner will receive a sign to proudly display in their  yard for the
month. All selections are done at the last week of the  month prior
to winning. The selection will take place March through  November.
If interested in serving as a judge, please email Arnold  Postell at.

    ·  HOLIDAY DECORATION CONTEST – Held in December for the holidays
and more details will be presented closer to the month.

    · COMMUNITY PLANT AND/OR VEGGIE SWAP – To be held a few times a
year.  If you are interested in swapping, please contact  Arnold to
let him know your items available. Once he receives feedback,
something more formal will be arranged.

    · GARDEN TALKS – Be on the lookout for more details on seasoned
professionals sharing their expertise throughout the year.

    · FRONT ENTRANCE BEDS –  Last but not least, the Committee will
begin to put plans together to redesign the front beds. If you have
ideas, materials or money that you want to use to support the
    project, please let Arnold know.

If interested in serving on the GARDEN COMMITTEE, please contact
Arnold Postell at  edible_gardens@yahoo.com.  Thank you so much to
Arnold for his time, expertise and service!

    FREE ENERGY ASSESSMENT:
The CharlestonWISE Impact Project is soliciting participation from households from across the city (renters and homeowners) to have a free home energy assessment. They are doing 200 in all, and taking sign-ups until April 29th.

    CRIME WATCH UPDATE:
If you had items stolen from your vehicle or questions about the car break-ins a couple of weeks ago, please contact the CPD liaison for our area: Lt. David Young: 323-7006.

Thank you all and please let us know if you’d like to include anything in the June newsletter!
